The School of Computer Science at Fudan University, which also houses the Software School and the School of Secrecy Administration, was founded on May 27, 2008. Following the tradition of high academic standards of Fudan University and building on the academic strengths of a multi-disciplinary and comprehensive university, the School of Computer Science engages in cutting edge research at the forefront of Computer Science at a high international level, serving the national strategic demand for top-class education, research and economic development. The School is firmly devoted to the goal of creating a comprehensive computer school with all disciplines of a high international reputation.
In recent years, the School has made considerable progress in its structural development, faculty recruitment, scientific research, student education and improvement of teaching conditions. At present, the school offers the top-level (by the classification of Ministry of Education) programs “Computer Science and Technology” and “Software Engineering”, and the second-level program “Computer Software and Theory” that has been recognized as a key-discipline program by the Ministry of Education and Shanghai Municipality. In addition, the Shanghai Key Laboratory of Intelligent Information Processing and the Network Information Security Audit and Monitoring Engineering Center of the Ministry of Education are part of the School of Computer Science.
The School’s enthusiastic excellent teaching and scientific research team consists of 170 staff including 117 full-time teachers, 21 full professors (all are PhD supervisors), 41 associate professors, and 16 researchers.
The School has established a full teaching program covering all levels from undergraduates to doctoral students. It has the right to grant doctoral degrees in the top-level discipline of Computer Science and Technology. Fudan Computer Science was the first “transitional station” in Shanghai, granted to host postdoctoral studies in Computer Science and Technology. It also has the right to grant doctoral and bachelor’s degrees in the second-level disciplines of Computer Software and Theory, Computer Application Technology, and Computer System Architecture. Furthermore, the School offers undergraduate degrees in Computer Science and Technology, Information Security, and Software Engineering, a full-time professional degree for Master of Engineering in Computer Technology, and part-time professional degrees for Master of Engineering in Computer Technology and Software Engineering. The school also provides basic computer science courses for students from other schools in our university. In addition, the school’s teaching lab has been honored as a Shanghai Experimental Teaching Center. At the end of 2010, the School had an enrollment of 171 doctoral students, 387 master students, 823 undergraduates, 99 full-time and 1,159 part-time students for the professional degree for Masters of Engineering. Since its establishment, the School has made remarkable achievements in talents training, with one national Excellent Doctoral Dissertation, three Excellent Doctoral Dissertations honored by the China Computer Federation, one Excellent Doctoral Dissertation nominated by the China Computer Federation, and several Excellent Doctoral and Master Dissertations in Shanghai.
The School of Computer Science and Technology has ongoing active research activities in database, computer networks, multimedia technology, information security, software engineering, system software, theory of algorithms, and embedded systems. In recent years, the researchers and teachers at the School undertook a large number of projects in their respective areas or in multi-disciplinary collaboration endeavors and made some influential scientific achievements. In addition, the teachers and students of the School annually publish papers at many international top-level conferences and journals such as ICSE, ISCA, WWW, ICML, ACM MM, and IEEE TPAMI.
