Department of Computer Science & Engineering is developed from Department of Computer Science which is founded in 1975. The department is one the earliest departments working on education and research of Computer science and now affiliate to School of Information Science & Engineering. The department has gained the right of awarding Degree of Philosophy in 1986; was approved to establish Post-Doctor Station of Computer Science and Technology in 1995; Computer Software and Theory Second Level Subject was approved to become Key Subject of Shanghai in 1996; gained right of Computer Science and Technology First Level Subject for awarding Degree of Philosophy in 2000; found Intelligent Information Processing Laboratory, Fudan University in 2002, and the laboratory has become Shanghai Key Laboratory of Intelligent Information Processing in 2004.

Department of Computer Science & Engineering has good stuffs including 1 academician of Chinese Academy of Science, 19 full-time stuffs ( 1 foreigner Professor, 16 supervisors of Ph.D . candidates), 1 Specially engaged Professor by Fudan Unversity, 39 Associate Professors. Among the about 30 young stuffs having Ph.D., 2/3 has gained the National Natural Science Foundation fundings.

In recent 5 years, researchers of our Department have taken on the projects from our national level, ministry and local government, have finished more than 200 tasks advanced in China and abroad, the annual research fees are 13 million. Among the projects, there are 5 National Natural Science Foundation fundings in specialized field in 2002, 5 National Natural Science Foundation fundings in specialized field in 2003, 7 National Natural Science Foundation fundings in specialized field in 2004, 1 Key National Natural Science Foundation funding, 2 Key Projects of Shanghai, and 6 National Natural Science Foundation fundings in specialized field, 1 Key National Natural Science Foundation funding in 2005. Furthermore, we have gained more than 20 first and second level Scientific and Technological Awards from the National, Ministry, and Shanghai . Among the awards, we have gained more than 10 awards from Province and Ministry or the higher units. We have published more than 200 papers in Core Journals, Magazines, and Conferences from China and abroad.
