More than twenty years ago, information assurance (IA) and cybersecurity defense (CD) were not part of common terms in IT, and degrees on cybersecurity were not heard of. Over the course, we observed that they are now not only a part of common terminology in IT, they are in weekly non-technical news headlines. Damages resulting from cyberattacks and cybercrime are soon reaching at six (6) trillion US dollars. Yet, over three (3) millions of positions on cybersecurity in US could not be filled. This talk is a reflection on the twenty (20) year joint effects by government, academia and industrials. It is to look beyond the past and the present and to prepare for the future.
Before joining Mercy College as a tenured full professor, Dr. Chen was an assistant professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and a senior research scientist in the IBM Research Center. He is serving a director of Information Assurance and Cybersecurity Defense Education. His current research interests are on data security in the areas of Internet Social Media and Services Computing including Blockchain, Cloud Computing and Autonomic Computing. He has published over 40 peer reviewed journal and conference papers, and served as program chairs, committee members in various IEEE conferences.
